Day-by-Day Itinerary: 3 Days From Fes to Marrakech via Merzouga

Day 1
Fes → Ifrane → Azrou → Ziz Valley → Merzouga (Desert Camp)

Your Morocco 3 days tour from Fes to Marrakech via Merzouga will start at 08:30 am. From your accommodation in Fes, we will go directly to Ifrane (Switzerland of Morocco) to enjoy its beauty and take memorable pictures. Then we will continue to Azrou to see the monkeys in the cedar forest. Continue to Midelt for a lunch meal.

Enjoy the scenery as we cross the TIZI N TALGHAMT pass in the afternoon to reach Errachidia. Afterwards, we will stop for a panoramic view of Ziz Valley. We continue our drive to the Erg Chebbi dunes, where we will pass Aoufous and Erfoud, famous for fossils and dates. After, we will continue to the fascinating dunes of Erg Chebbi, also called the Merzouga Dunes. Arrive at the hotel and prepare yourself for a one-and-a-half-hour camel trek to experience the sunset; try sandboarding if that is an activity you are interested in, take pictures, and enjoy the views.

After the sun goes down, your camel ride continues to the camp, where you will be welcomed with a glass of mint tea, a delicious dinner, Berber drumming music, and a sky full of bright stars, and you will spend the night at the desert camp.

Overnight: Desert camp, Erg Chebbi ·  Meals: Breakfast & dinner included ·  Includes: Camel trek
Day 2
Sunrise Over Erg Chebbi → Rissani → Todra Gorge → Dades Valley

The second day of your Morocco itinerary 3 days to the Sahara Desert is a special day. You will begin at your Merzouga lodging, and your driver will pick you up from your hotel. The reason this day is so special is that you will explore the desert environment, starting with the Sahara museum, which is owned by a man from Qatar. It is also known for old cars. Secondly, you will visit a Berber village called “Khamlia.” It is a small village at the edge of the desert where most of its people immigrated from the south and middle of Africa, like Chad and Nigeria. You are going to taste their mint tea and enjoy their traditional music, which is called “Gnaoua.”

After learning the story, you are going to a beautiful place close to the frontiers of Algeria, where we will travel to the 19th century to see two villages of French people during the French occupation.

Thirdly, your driver will pick you up again to explore the nomad’s life. You will see so many tents, which are their hometown; also, you will see the transportation and their simple way to make fresh food and their handcrafted stuff. In short, you will cross the Merzouga desert dunes to your hotel, where you will relax and spend the night.

Overnight: Dades Valley  ·  Meals: Breakfast & dinner included
Day 3
Dades Valley → Ouarzazate → Aït Benhaddou → Tizi n’Tichka Pass → Marrakech

On the last day of our magical 3 days tour from Fes to Marrakech, you will get ready to leave the desert, which will be the saddest part of all, and head to Marrakech through Rissani, passing by the Dràa Valley with its palm groves. We’ll cross the High Atlas to Marrakech by evening and leave you at your hotel or any point you wish. At this point it will be the end of your trip.

Meals: Breakfast included ·  Drop-off: Marrakech (riad, hotel or airport)

Good to know: This is our fastest option for Fes to Marrakech desert tour. If you’d prefer to break the long drive on day 2 into two shorter days, with more time at each stop, then our 4 days tour from Fes to Marrakech, but at a more leisurely pace.

Practical Information About 3 days Tour From Fes To Marrakech

Best Time to Go For Fes To Marrakech Desert Tour

The best time for the camel trek and the mountain crossings is spring (March-May) and autumn (October-November). In summer (June–August), Merzouga daytime temperatures can exceed 40°C, but Ifrane and the Middle Atlas are much cooler. The Tizi n’Tichka Pass can be snowy in winter, and nights at the desert camp can be near freezing, so pack layers no matter the season.

Fitness Level

Suitable for all fitness levels. The camel ride is very gentle, and no previous experience is required. Day 2 is the longest drive of this itinerary (approx 8-9 hours including stops) as it combines the return from Merzouga and both gorges in one day. Worth knowing if you’d prefer something a bit more relaxed, in which case the 4-day version may suit you better.

What to Pack For 3 days Tour From Fes To Merzouga

  • Layered clothing — warm layers for desert-camp nights and the mountain passes, breathable clothing for daytime
  • A scarf or turban to protect against sand and sun (often provided at the camp)
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat
  • A basic overnight bag — larger luggage can stay in the vehicle
  • Cash (dirhams) for lunches, entrance fees and tips

Frequently Asked Questions About 3 days Tour From Fes To Marrakech

Is 3 days enough time to see the desert properly between Fes and Marrakech?
Yes, for the full desert-camp experience, with the camel trek, sunset, dinner, and sunrise in Erg Chebbi. With a longer tour you get time at each stop along the way, as day 2 combines several sights (Rissani, Todra Gorge, and the drive to Dades) into one longer driving day.
Is this a private tour or a shared group tour?
This is a private tour—your own vehicle and driver-guide, not a shared mini-bus with other travelers. That means flexible timing, custom stops and a pace set by you instead of a fixed group schedule.
What’s the difference between this and the 4-day Fes to Marrakech tour?
Both take a similar general route, and both include a desert-camp night in Erg Chebbi. The 4-day version allows more time at each stop, spreading the drive back from Merzouga over two shorter days with an overnight in Ouarzazate; this 3-day version packs it into one longer day.
Can I go sandboarding in Merzouga?
Yes—sandboarding isn’t included in the standard package but can usually be arranged locally at the desert camp as an optional add-on. Ask your driver-guide or mention it when booking the tour.
Do I need camel-riding experience for the Merzouga desert camp?
No experience necessary. The camel trek into Erg Chebbi is guided and paced for beginners, and travelers of most ages and fitness levels can take part comfortably.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Yes, this tour has free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start of the tour for a full refund. If you need to change your dates please contact us directly.
