1 Day Trip To The Blue Town Of Chefchaouen From Fes

Our one-day trip from Fes to Chefchaouen departs at 8:00 am from your accommodation in Fes. We’ll head north in an air-conditioned vehicle for a three-hour drive to the charming town of Chefchaouen. Along the way, you’ll be captivated by the stunning views of the Rif Mountains and the rolling hills of Ouezzane, with stops to soak in the scenery, enjoy the fresh air, and snap amazing photos. Just inland from Tangier and Tetouan, Chaouen, as locals call it, was founded as a fortress in the 1400s. Chefchaouen is famous for its dreamy blue-washed houses, artisanal wool products, and delicious goat cheese. Its name comes from the shape of the mountain peaks above the town, resembling the two horns (chaouen) of a goat. The abundance of water in this hillside town has created a network of mineral-rich caves in the surrounding mountains. We’ll stop at a mountain viewpoint for a panoramic look at Chefchaouen before arriving at noon. You’ll have four hours free to wander its winding streets, explore the medina’s Arab-Andalusian traditions and goods, and visit Plaza Uta El-Hammam, home to the impressive 15th-century Grand Mosque and kasbah. The mosque, with its unique octagonal tower, was built by Jewish refugees who, alongside Muslims, fled Spanish persecution. Discover more about the town’s history and culture at the Kasbah Museum or the Ethnographic Museum, which houses musical instruments, antique weapons, and historic photographs. Next, we’ll visit the Ras El-Maa Waterfall to enjoy the fresh air, the sound of rushing water, and the lush green hills. Continue on to the Spanish Mosque for a beautiful city view after an easy walk uphill. Savor a delicious lunch in the square, at a rooftop restaurant, or even in the riverbed for a refreshing experience on a hot day. In the late afternoon, we’ll head back to Fes, arriving in the evening.
