2 Days Tour From Marrakech to Zagora Sahara Desert
If you only have two days in Marrakech but want a real night in the Sahara, this 2 days Zagora desert tour from Marrakech is the fastest way to make that happen. Rather than racing toward the famous Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga, four hours further south, this itinerary heads for Zagora close enough to reach comfortably in a single driving day — while still delivering a genuine desert camp, a camel trek into real Sahara dunes, and a night under a sky thick with stars.
Along the way you’ll cross the High Atlas on the legendary Tizi n’Tichka Pass and stop at the UNESCO World Heritage ksar of Ait Benhaddou, so even at just two days, this is a complete taste of southern Morocco, not a rushed detour.

Why Zagora Desert Tour Is the Smart Choice for a 2 Days?
Compared with the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga, the Zagora desert region is around four hours closer to Marrakech. Reaching Merzouga and returning within two days would require two extremely long driving days, leaving practically no time to actually appreciate the desert once you arrived.
Despite being smaller and less well-known than Erg Chebbi’s dunes, the dunes near Zagora still deliver a real Sahara desert camp experience, complete with a camel trek and a night spent lying beneath the stars. For travelers who want a genuine desert night without giving up two or three extra vacation days, this is currently the shortest way to reach a real Sahara desert camp from Marrakech and back.
Who This Marrakech Desert Tours 2 Days Suits
This tour works best for travelers with limited time in Morocco a long weekend in Marrakech, a stopover, or a trip where the rest of the itinerary is already booked who still want one authentic night in the Sahara rather than skipping the desert altogether. It suits couples, small groups, and first-time visitors who want a taste of desert life without committing three or more days to it. If a second desert region, bigger dunes, or more time in the Atlas Mountains matters more to you than speed, our 3-day Merzouga tour is the better fit.

Zagora or Merzouga: Which 2026 Desert Tour Should You Book?
Both are popular Marrakech desert tours, but they suit different trips. This 2 day desert tour from Marrakech is built for speed: one night in the Sahara without giving up a third or fourth vacation day, using dunes that are smaller but genuinely wild. Our 3-day tour to Merzouga reaches the taller, more famous Erg Chebbi dunes and adds the Todra Gorge, at the cost of one extra day and considerably more driving. Travelers with only a weekend choose Zagora; travelers who can spare a third day and want the classic postcard dunes choose Merzouga.
Important Tip from Our Guides About Marrakech 2 Day Desert Tour
Pack a warm layer even in summer desert nights near Zagora drop sharply once the sun sets, and the walk from camp to the dune-top for sunset is on soft sand, so closed shoes or sandals with a strap travel better than flip-flops. If photography matters to you, ask your driver-guide to time the Ait Benhaddou stop for the softer light of mid-morning rather than midday.

Great expperience!
We made a two-day vacation from Marrakech, leaving at approximately 7.30 a.m. from our Riad in the Medina. We stopped at several spots to take pictures, buy coffee, and use the restroom, and we got beautiful views of the Atlas Mountains. In the afternoon, we went to Ait Ben Haddou, which was well worth it. We next rode camels for 1.5 hours to the Berber camp in Zagora, where we enjoyed a delicious tajine and an unforgettable evening. However, sleeping in the tents (at least with the door open) was nearly impossible due to the extreme heat. After a camel ride back (30 minutes or so), we traveled to Ouarzazate for a tour before returning to Marrakech.

Travel to Zagora
It was one of the most beautiful experiences in Morroco. The trip was well organized from the pick up till the return, the driver was excellent help along the way his minibus was clean and comfortable, and we saw amazing landscapes and views also a Berbers village lifestyle. The camel ride was very exciting to assist the wonderful sunset, the beds are super comfortable and all were super clean, food was good, and traditional music and good times around a campfire far from the world and close to the sky. The people were very nice and welcoming. Thank you for making our wish come true
